Klingon Komputer Krashed!

It seems Kirk has fought the Klingons in my computer for it doesn't seem to want to boot now. i've stripped it to barebones, ie monitor, psu, mobo, ram and a tiny speaker. i "jumpstart" it with a screwdriver in lieu of a powerbutton, the psu runs and no noise happens from the speakers nor a signal to the monitor. please help!

Gizmo 21st June, 2007 07:04 PM

Take the mobo out of the case, hook it up to the PSU. Remove the RAM and disconnect the monitor, but hook up the speaker.

See if you get a series of beeps when you do that.

captaincurran 21st June, 2007 07:19 PM

i'm fearing for the worst... there was no sound. i'm hoping that's more the fault of the speaker.

Fingers are crossed for the Mighty Klingon Empire!

Samuknow 21st June, 2007 09:03 PM

If you get nada...it is most likely the board.

Try a good cmos reset.

captaincurran 21st June, 2007 09:23 PM

i just tried doing a CMOS Clear for a few secs as per my manual, didn't work, so i'm doing a longer cmos clear as i type. hopefully that will work untill a new idea is presented.

captaincurran 22nd June, 2007 12:11 AM

okay, i tried starting it again after a lengthy cmos clearing session... to no avail. *sigh* so i do believe the Klingon Kase is Kaput. sooo... anyone know where i can get a new Mobo to support the Celly CPU i've got? the specs of the particular cpu i've got is here: http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...px?sSpec=SL5ZF

Samuknow 22nd June, 2007 12:52 AM

What socket is that?

captaincurran 22nd June, 2007 01:11 AM

welll..... according to the the mobo's manual, it's a socket 370, but according to Wikipedia, the 370 socket only has 370 pins, this cpu apparently has 475. though i have as of yet to actually count them. whic is what i'm gonna be doing once i locate my scanner....

okay, it does have 370 pins, that intel cpu spec finder sucks.... soo.... yeah, socket 370 i'm assuming

Samuknow 22nd June, 2007 01:15 AM

I think it is a 475.

If your up for cap replacing I might have a stock emachine board for you.

Might throw in a 1.4 or something P4...

cloasters 22nd June, 2007 01:31 AM

My old mainboard collection is packed away. If I find the time and gumption, there might be an Asus S370 there. But don't hold your breath for too long.

captaincurran 22nd June, 2007 01:36 AM

just wanted to put this here instead in the edited post so you notice it, but it had 370 pins on it. so by wiki-terms it's a socket 370

Pitch 24th June, 2007 03:29 AM

Yeah, socket 370, same as the FC-PGA P3's.

cloasters 24th June, 2007 07:18 PM

Carap, I discovered that I actually tossed or donated all of my olde mainboards. Sorry, Captain!

bonesaw 24th June, 2007 10:10 PM

i love that case

robbie 25th June, 2007 12:18 AM

I'm sure I have something laying around as well.
Have you tried a different power supply?

captaincurran 25th June, 2007 06:04 AM

i've only got the one PSU. alas i used to have plenty of older spare parts but since moving so often so recently it's hard to move all the extras.

Bonesaw, don't worry the Klingon Kase itself shall stay with me. just without the mobo.
