Zone Alarm may be spying on you

Just reading this:
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=29157

and this:
http://www.infoworld.com/article/06/...ringley_1.html

Zone Labs denied the flaw for nearly two months, then eventually chalked it up to a “bug” in the software -- even though instructions to contact the servers were set out in the program’s XML code.
If you are using the ZA firewall, I'd suggest using something else or blocking their servers.

The company says it will fix the "bug" soon. In the meantime you can work around it by adding:
# Block access to ZoneLabs Server
127.0.0.1 zonelabs.com
to your Windows host file.

I'm even less savy than the author, anyone have a how to:

# Block access to ZoneLabs Server
127.0.0.1 zonelabs.com
to your Windows host file.

in the \Windows\... folder find a file called "hosts", edit it with notepad and add those lines:
# Block access to ZoneLabs Server
127.0.0.1 zonelabs.com
That's all. hope his helps you.

Edit: On my machine the complete path to the file is this: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\.

For a WinNT or Win2K machine it will be in the WINNT\system32\drivers\etc directory. Or symbolically:

%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\drivers\etc

That will work regardless of the version of WinNT-descended OS you are running.

I used to use ZA when i first got into computers (i was always into it, but i mean when i really started to learn more). That was in 2003. It was a good program back then, i liked it. But after about mid 2004 and a few updates, it became what i would class as one of the worst programs available. It just didn't like i anything i did. So i got rid of it. Now i'm glad i did.
