Hacking a webcam

So I bought this webcam. It comes with one nice program that goes into the taskbar and tells you when webcam is in use. It can be disabled so it's not a pain in the arse. Had no issues until Sunday it went broadcasting by itself. Led on webcam green and no application that I was aware that could use it. I mention that I also have a tvtuner and sometimes they get mixed So my question is, is it easy for someone to access my webcam without me saying he can? Must he be a good hacker or just an average guy with too much time on his hands? However when not in use I turn webcam towards Antec case and a gray image is all you get. Thanks for answering !

I've heard of this. There's a virus that can access webcams, can't remember the name just now, but do a full virus scan.

Also, there's a worm out there that spreads like mad to most computers, it's called win32/watchfree.xxx.somesiteyouneverheardof

Webcams provide a standard way of talking to them, so that any program that knows how to talk to a video capture card can also talk to a webcam.

Access to a webcam just depends on what programs you have running on your machine... Obviously if I put a trojan on your system, then I could access whatever I wanted...

@Raphael/Skool: thank you guys you are great ! But Quelle here has weird habits and he project his phobias onto other ppl. Poor bastard
