Do people really depend on the XP firewall? I do not use it because it causes a few issues with my network from time to time.. I have my router and feel safe with it. Plus I never depend on M$ for security...

<blush> well, I do! </blush>

But still, the fact that XP is still vulnerable to such dangerous attacks is not cool at all

How easily could a person design and code their own firewall software, I wonder?

Would be secure given that no hacker would be aware of it even existing and therefore won't know how to break it. Atleast, that's what I'd hope!

"Security through obscurity" though, is never good as a primary defense mechanism. And designing and writing your own firewall is surprisingly difficult.

Windows XP firewall "It still exists???" j/k but yea suprising how many people use just that and an outdated copy of Norton that was put on their pc when they got it not knowing that its no good.

Well it only works if they are connected to the LAN, and if you are using ICS.

I use XP firewall and AVG, but for my level of browsing thats all I need.
Neither me or my partner (who is also IT literate) go to dodgy sites, or open emails where we don't know where they come from or not sure of the attachment.

I have used online scanners, and other software, and none has come up with anything apart from adaware and its fascination with cookies and recent documents lists.

Well, most of the computers use 2rd party firewalls so that is not a big issue. Furthermore it can only be exploited locally...
