Static Data Authenication anyone? See the intercepter for more details on how the data on a card can be intercepted and recorded for many cards.

The details behind the relay attack can be found here.

This can be performed against a number of different smartcards, not just chip and PIN cards. It has been sucessfully performed against Mifare based cards (Such as London Transport's Oyster card) for example. Mifare is even easier, as no PIN is required, just proximity to the card.
