Legit companies should not be asking for copies of your passport. If they respected the law, then it would not be so easy for fraudsters to extract info.

AFAIK, no one can take your passport, out of your sight, bar an immigration official.

Only the other day, I had a call from someone claiming to be from an estate agent, asking where an employee had previously worked. I didn't answer a single question, depsite being sure the call was legit. Don't these idiots realise there are laws against this? What makes them think they have the right to ask for a person's personal details over the phone?
