At my school we have web filter which has been setup so that it has several different filter lists such as violence, pornography etc. We also have proxy servers, one called filtered the other unfiltered and as you can guess changing the proxy address in Firefox removed the filter quite nicely :) Unfortunately the Admin discovered this and changed the address and has now blocked all .exe's except Word and other boring applications.

I've been working in an organisation that inspects all web traffic, including SSL traffic. All traffic to the Internet has to go through their proxy server (which only supports HTTP and SSL). That makes it quite a bit more difficult to get around - so I didn't bother trying to.

Be aware that bypassing proxies and other access control mechanisms is often classified as gross misconduct in companies, and can result in you being fired.

This brings up a great point.

I have been using a web "filter" on my boys machine to limit the content. The issue is that he keeps finding questionable sites. Is there a better way?
Is there a better program than net nanny or weblocker?
