What about a shiny original?

Howdy. I'm still very unschooled in image manipulation, so please pardon this newbie question.
If you have a very high quality scanner, do the reflections off of a shiny photographic print that you plan to convert to digital form mess up the scan? Thanks!

Not usually. The closeness and angle of the light source to the print usually negates any reflections. A bigger problem can be the matt photo's with the rough surface. If the scanner is high enough resolution it can sometimes actually pick up tiny "ripples" on the scan.

Also make sure the print is very clean. Fingerprints can be a real pain.

what dod said...
I've noticed with matte finish, I get the grains appearing on scans whenever I go to 600 or more. Glossy's always seem to come out nice...... if I remember to wipe clean the photo and glass on the scanner first.

Muchas gracias, compadres! Shuh, I should have thought about the angle of the beam that illuminates the scan. Be pretty dumb to use light slanted sideways!
