It's a fairly basic 1.2Mp camera. Fine for point and shoot but you may find it a bit restrictive for anything more than that. No viewing screen and the lack of ability to take a separate storage card are the biggest problems in my view.

As Dod says, it's a pretty basic camera, with a low resolution. If you just want a basic camera to take a few pictures with, and only show them on a TV/monitor, then it might meet your needs. There's no zoom on it, but it does provide flash. If you wanted to print the pictures, the camera only really provides enough pixels for a 4" by 3" print.

It might be helpful if you gave an idea as to what you want the camera for, and what sort of things you're looking to do with it.

The lack of a display does have the advantage of batteries lasting longer.

Many years ago, Nikon sold a 35mm that could be used under water. Not too more than ~30 feet. I liked it because it made pics in lousy weather possible. It was named the "Nikonos." Is there a contemporary digital camera? TIA!

Canon makes some excellent cameras, IMHO. Whatever you do, stay clear of no-name cameras as these tend to use crappy lenses. With a bad lens, having lots of Mpx doesn't help at all.

NEVER go for a CMOS lens, btw.

As far as I am aware there isnt an underwater digital SLR yet. There are a couple of waterproof digitals though. Nothing of the quality of the Nikonos which I "THINK" was based on the F3.

Edit: speaking absolute rubbish check this link for history of Nikonos
