You definitely have a good eye, dod!

Those pictures of the brook look neat. Did you do anything special to get that effect with the water?

Small aperture and long shutter speed, think it was about F16 and 8 seconds and it gives you the swirly effect.

Yes Dimveisel, it's my other hobby when I get the chance which has been all too little lately.

I thought it was some kind of time-lapse. But then I could clearly see (or thought so, anyway) droplets of water from a splash, so I was confused.

Anyway, nice pics!

You evidently know what you are doing.
How long have you pursued this hobby dod?

Once upon a time I got embarrasingly high praise from my art teacher & I have kept up with fine art to a degree - but like yourself perhaps, nowhere near as often as I would like.
I also would have liked very much to take up photography earnestly. I sometimes recognise something which is worthy of record, or could become worthy with some small apt 'interpretation' or framing of the scene.

I think that must have been cause by a splash just before the shutter closed. Confused me a bit to start with as well.

On and off since I was about 10 years old (41 now). I bought a Halina 110 camera, you know the one's with the cassette loader, when we were on a family holiday in Nairn, where I happen to live now. Since then I've been through way too many to mention Bit like cpu's really

That's half the battle, here's the ducks before I cropped it, doesn't work nearly as well.

I suspect you really have a good eye for a picture, got anything to put up?

I think another factor could be that the droplets caught the light at that moment and focused it straight at the lens. Otherwise, with a small aperture they would not be bright enough to register.

I like your back lit shots - were they taken in the morning or afternoon? It looks like the sun may have been low at the time.

That's a better explanation These were taken around lunchtime but the sun is low with us now.

If you're still thinking of a DSLR you should go for it. Way more responsive than the compact, and it makes you stop and think a bit.

What about putting up some of your shots, I know you're pretty good looking at some of your earlier stuff.

And thanks for the nice comments guys, really only for my own enjoyment but I'm please some of you like them too

Maybe that's how dod got the one in the back laughing!

"Say would you ducks mind lining up for a bit...Just a quick photo for the kiddies!"

Apt interpretation Daniel, it does indeed seem as if the head is thrown back in mirth. (Just rediscovered that you can't use the word 'co-cked' on here )

Great pic.

If I were to take up photography in earnest, I would certainly aspire to this level, but most likely follow the example of this gentleman; this guy is the embodiment of the word dedication:
Constitution of a true photographer

Just be thankful that you don't live directly to the east of the M181.

Unless, of course, you do.
