I've got my eye on the Canon Ixus. The lens on it is capable of a fairly wide aperture f2.8, so it will take better shots in lower light levels. |

I've got a Powershot A75 and I'm very pleased with it, the S60 looks quite similar to the A95 but with a re-chargeable Li-ion battery I'm not experienced with it but it gives good photos once I've got the settings right so I would recomend a canon |

hmmmm.....how about the Sony DSC W1? Anyone here used one? Its slightly cheaper than the Canon Digital Ixus 500 and seems to be highly rated. |

IF your going to get the DSCW1 get the DSCW5 its the w1's replacement looks nicer and supposidly has a better lense. But then again sony cameras r garbage so i woudlnt really recommend them. I would get a canon or a panasonic.

The Canon PowerShot's A series' are dodgy. The A95 is ok. But the rest are under-featured and over priced and you will spend a fortune of batteries. Just my 2c. I would recommend the MJU, if it will be your first digital camera. Simple, straight forward, and small. Takes good quality photo's for a camera its size. But if you experienced with digital cameras. Then I would go for the IXUS. It has lots of settings to choose from. But slightly longer learning curve. But if you buy it from a camera shop, get them to give you a basic run through of everything in the camera. Is it just me, or do I sound like a salesmen? I mean no offence to people with PowerShot A series' cameras. Im not sure of your prices. But here, you can get a PS A75 for $399 AUD, for an extra $100 you can get a Kodak DX6590. Which is a far superior camera. And another $250 on that you can get DX7590. Another good one is the Kodak 7440. Fairly simple (all Kodak's are) sneider lense I believe. Im certain the DX6590 and DX7590 are, and im almost certain the 7440 is. Last edited by Rondog; 11th June, 2005 at 01:01 PM. |

One of my reasons for the Sony was the rechargeable Li-Ion AA cells. As I mostly use the camera when I'm out and about I have the option of just using regular Alkaline AA cells if I get caught out. Also the battery life is awesome, I get about 300 shots with flash and using the 2.5" LCD viewfinder! |
