Fun Photo Assignment #1

This will be are first photo assignment, just for fun.

Everyone is welcome to have a go. No need for expensive cameras or professional skills.

You just need to take a photo with a theme which fits the following word:

Contrast

Once you have a photo, don't post it up. Send me a private message and I will give you my email address and then you can email it to me. I don't want to post my email address here because it will attract spam.

Please, take a fresh photo not one you already have.

Submissions need to be sent to me by 20th April. That gives you 2 weeks from now.

I'll post up all entries after that time and then members can vote for their favorite using a poll. The winner gets to pick a word for the next assignment. Pitch chose the word this time round.

Guidelines for editing:

You may crop your photo.
You can adjust brightness, contrast and colour balance.
You can convert to monochrome, i.e. black and white, etc.
You can add a plain solid border.
Minor touch-ups are OK, e.g. removal of dead pixels, small imperfections like dust.
No clever or fancy photo editing this time, please. Just basic stuff.

No restrictions on what camera, lens or lighting you use. Be as creative as you like with the camera!

Why hasn't anybody thought of something like this before? This is a great idea! The weather has really been getting nice here in the past week or so and I've been starting to go out and getting photos. I can't wait to participate!

EDIT: I really like this word. It can be taken to mean photographic contrast, in which case we'll get pictures with sharply contrasting lights and darks. It can also be taken to mean a contrast of something like ideals. I think we're going to get photos that run the entire spectrum for this contest.

You can convert to black and white. You can adjust brightness, contrast and colour balance. But, nothing fancy in Photochop. It's a photo comp not an image editing comp.

Yep, that's fair enough, I'd also say that there are times when you might want to crop the photo a bit to concentrate on the subject.

Yes, cropping would be fine. Just no special effects or fancy editing.

So long as the photo says "contrast" in some way it will count. Be as imaginative as you like. It can be a play on the word or whatever.
