Photo of the Moon

Here's my poor effort!

Taken just now. May try again with a tripod. LOL

I got my tripod and camera out yesterday night to take a photograph of the moon. As I was walking home, some wispy clouds were partially covering the moon and giving it a cool effect. Alas, when I got out there with my equipment the clouds were nowhere to be found.

Your photo isn't bad. I'm really surprised how well it turned out without a tripod. Either you have extremely steady hands or your camera has some sort of anti-shake capability built into it.

Are you sure is that the real moon and not the artificial? In my country even without a tripod is at least 4 times yours.

It was much bigger. But the larger size is an optical illusion which doesn't show in a photo.

So are you interested in astronomy at all Danrok??? Or just photography?

I am just asking, I personally enjoy looking through a telescope from time to time. I think it is the scale that amazes me. Also there is so much out there and we know so much about it and yet know so little.

Anyway, you may enjoy a local star party. Let me know if you are interested and I'll hook you up with some info.

I do find the skies facinating to look at. I only hav a very cheap telescope, but I've also got an infrared ex-Russian surveilance thing. It's amazing how many more stars you can see looking through that - only an 85mm lens though.

well it has often been said that a cheap telescope is worse than none at all. I won't even sugest that you buy one. Try going to www.cloudynights.com and check out thier forums. Also do a search for star parties in your area.

Star parties can be lots of fun. You will meet many friendly people who want to share thier hobby and you will get to look through a lot of telescopes and see what you like. And if you don't enjoy it all you have wasted is time.

Matter of fact, tell where you are in GB and I'll do the leg work for you and find a close by star party.

I live off-shore on an island. There are astronomers here, but I don't know if they organise star parties.

The moon has been fantastic recently. Especially when there's slight cloud cover, so you get the typical full moon slightly covered by wispy clouds look.
This time of year, September-December, is the best time of year for sky shots.
