Dual monitor Wallpapers

due to the size variance of my screens, i'm running my monitors presently with one at 800x600 32bit colour, and the other at 1024x768 32bit colour. since when i do a full 1024x768 wallpaper on them and it looks bad on the smaller resolution, i was wondering how i would go about making a wallpaper so it looks right on both screens and not just be the same image repeated for both screens.

Resize the wallpaper that doesn't fit. save it to a file. The go to desktops> properties where you should find Two monitors. You have to first select that each monitor can use differing rez.

That's as near as I can recall.

Use 2 wallpapers, one at 1024x768 and one at 800x600. If you have a wallpaper currently designed for two monitors (say 2048x768) then cut it in half with photoshop, save it as two separate files and resize the second half.

To be honest, Windows' ability to scale is pretty good, so you'll probably find this still doesn't look great. Not everything scales well.

AFAIK windows doesn't let you settup two seperate wallpapers out of the box.

You're right, it's driver specific. ATi and nVidia drivers provide the relevant extensions. However IIRC captaincurran's using separate video cards to drive each display. I vaguely recall that Windows then handles these as completely different displays and allows you to set up separate wallpapers. I could well be wrong, though...

I don't know, I can remember fiddling around with the nVidia drivers for a while when I was running dual displays and not finding anything

Let us know how it goes, Captain!

The screenshot proves it's running as two separate devices. The application bar only appears on the primary display.

How about... on one monitor, right click, go to properties and select the wallpaper, on the other monitor do likewise. What happens then?

You have to go through Nvidia properties.

that would be fine if you have an nvidia chipset.... or are you indicating that only nvidia can handle seperate desktop paterns?
