several hundred photos to edit

I've got several hundred photos to make 800x600 pixels.
Is there a way to do batch editing in windows xp?
Or does anyone know a program that will do it?
I have photoshop elements 2.0 and I can imagine the hours it will
take to edit them one by one.

You could download a trial of Paint Shop Pro.

Then use the Batch Process feature.

If paint shop pro does that wouldn't Photoshop Elements?
I know the pro version of Photoshop does...

I've never used Elements, so I don't know.

I ended up just editing them one by one in Photoshop Elements.
It was time consuming but I got a pattern down and worked quickly.

If elements allows you to record Action Scripts, then you could have used them.

Not familier with Elements though. Seems like a cut down/diet version of photoshop.

It definitely is the diet version of full Photoshop.
But also a few hundred dollars cheaper...
Elements still has a lot of cool things to offer.
I created all of my website raster images & backgrounds with Elements.
I've also done lots of logos and photo editing (cropping, stamp editing, color corrections) too.
Its great for the price, but hard to use in a professional environment like in printing press or sign making.

If your creating an image for printing, it is just really a case of making it bigger.

A screen is about 72dpi, whereas for printing you're looking at about 300dpi.

Of course, you can always make the image poster size and cause the newspaper's entire network to crash. (See me for details)

I think elements does let you define custom actions.

Go to the "window" tab along the top and if you have an actions option you're good to go.

Dude I am so dumb!!!
Your right dod, I went file and there it is

BATCH PROCESSING

Why didn't I see it before? After editing all those photos.
Well now I know. It looks pretty cool, you can save files from any folder and resize/compress/re-name any amount of files.
Cool

I tend to find for printing press or sign making that tools such as Illustrator tend to be better suited. Photoshop doesn't handle text nearly as well as Illustrator does!

You're right. Illustrator is better for re-sizing the vector fonts and images. Photoshop doesn't have much for vector editing. You can make shapes, lines, and text but thats about it. I did notice in Photoshop 7 that they started adding aspects of imageready into it. I havn't used CS yet, but I wonder if imageready and photoshop have completely combined into one.
I'm a CAD guru and found that Auto CAD is great for creating vector shapes, images, and graphics. Cad is really fast at drawing geometric graphics and you can print to jpg or render as a tiff.
