Really cool. Wonder how it was taken. Here's my guess: aerial photograph with a VERY wide lens. I guess photoshop is always a possibility, but I'd rather think it's a raw photograph.

Photoshop's "Sphereize" Filter was used in conjuction with a low aerial shot using a wide angle.

A very wide lens is not necessary.

You need to make a panorama which does the full 180 degrees on the vertical, and 360 degrees horizontal.

That panorama must have a 1:2 aspect, e.g. 3200 x 1600 pixels.

Then you resize it to a square shape, e.g. 1600 x 1600. Squashed horizontally, in other words.

Then you can make it in to a sphere.

Thanks for the lesson guys. For some reason I'm a little disappointed that PS was used, through I've got no reason to be.

The sphereize thing can also be done in Paint Shop Pro, it's called Polar Co-ordinates.
