Photoshop plugins and how-to-use-them

I haven't had much experience using anything not included with Photoshop (I have 7.0 now).

I know there are a lot out there. Anyone with experience/links/feedback, that might be a good place to start.

I use these frequently:

Alien Skin: Eye Candy and Xenofex Filters

Axion Flare Effects This one is cool, however, I've had issues with it not wanting to install on XP since I went to NTFS for some reason, with the message: Cannot run 16-bit Windows Application. It also doesn't like Photoshop 7's program directory for Plugins, but I pointed it to my older PS 6's Plugins directory via the registry, and all's well in Flare Land.

I like Eye Candy because it will apply effects to a selected area only, instead of all the layers. Photoshop seems to apply its Layer Effects to all layers for some reason.

Love Photoshop, however, I also use Macromedia Fireworks for about 1/2 my web work, over Adobe's Image Ready. Fireworks interfaces beautifully with Dreamweaver. The filters above can be used with both PS and FW.

I used to use the older version of Kai's PowerTools once in awhile, but it doesn't work with PS 7. The newer version I have is strange. Those guys are on drugs or something...not that that's a *bad* thing necessarily. Everyone uses aspirin or Ibuprofen once in awhile....
