AMD Drops Price on the 4800+

Looks like the AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ has gone from $1,100 to just under $900. The Pentium D 840 EE has maintained a price of $1,000. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

Cool, but they're not putting out a dual 2.6Ghz chip?

The 5000+ is a lovely number from a marketing perspective isnt it? Intel needs to do something serious right now.

Its getting similar to the ATI situation, just as Nvidia released a next gen product, and then followed up with an even better next gen product, AMD released the Athlon 64, which is simply art on silicone, and then followed up with the most elegant, and more importantly, compatible dual core technology available.

Glueing two chips that already lose to the Athlon 64 together, does not make it a new CPU. Making people buy new motherboards just to support a half arsed technology, when a new one is just around the corner, is disrespectfull to customers.

Where is the dual core dothan thing?

Ahhh, sweet 'revenge' to intel! I salute you AMD! A dual 2.6Ghz would be sweet, 5.2Ghz is a sweet number, a few months ago on another forum, i said it wouldn't be long until 5Ghz CPU's were available, i always knew i was a precog!

Cadaveca this sounds a little bit to slow. A 400MHz increase for an increase of 200 in rating.
