Sis 746fx

After all this time, it appears Epox dropped the planned SIS 746 board.
So, how about the SIS 746FX chipset?
Any plans?

I bet forum regular K6III wants to know this too

I knew you would be interested. Back when news of the 745 came out, I think you and I were just about the only ones really interested.

You are correct, it was the SIS745, not the 746, that we saw Epox announce way back then.

It's obviously history now, but I would sure like to know if there are any plans for Epox making a SIS 746FX.

What is your current system K6III?

Well ET, I have better CDRW(Plextor 48/24/48) and DVD(LITE-ON LTD-166S 16/48), better case(Thermaltake Xaser2 6000 Plus and Antec 1080AMG) and PSU(Antec 550W TP).
I dunno about the soundcard, I have Audigy. And oh yeah, more and faster RAM, TwinMOS DDR400 512MB.

But I have P4(I am lame, I know) on 4G4A+, sorry about that.
As for graphics, I have GF4 Ti4600.

But seriously, any plans to make SiS 74x boards ?

The system is just a "sensible" system made from things we had here. But a nice fast system all the same. It was more of a - you don't need millions of euro's worth of equipment to have a nice system kind of thing.

I'm only asking for challengers on the PSU - it cost a fraction of that of yours and I bet it is more stable under load. It really is my favourite.

I know the other stuff is mundane, but I bet you my case is better - we made it !

As for SiS746 - wait and see ..............

I think CWT is one of the best kept secrets in the market.
They've been in quality boxes for years.
I love my 420w, and and paid $30 less than people who bought similar Antecs... The only difference is Antec took a sticker and covered the label on my psu.

Antec rocks. Yes, it may cost a bit more. I don't think we can get Channel Well here in the US.

That's pretty good, a 320 watt PSU powering that rig.

SIS746FX delayed.
Per news at ocworkbench:
"According to our correspondents based in Taipei (not SiS), it is rumoured that the SiS 746FX is delayed till the end of December. Well, I hope it will be here by Christmas time.

The good news is that it is coming, at least. I am hoping SIS performed a performance miracle with this chipset, as they sort of did for the SIS648.
With nforce 2 and KT400A coming out, SIS will need a performance boost to compete.

...it would enough for the SIS746 to be cheaper and to offer the fantastic PCI implementation and stability of its predecessors, combined with the OC benefits from having an Epox...

a bump because I am hoping Epox Tech will give us news on the initial question.

K6-III,
Did you bite and get an 8RDA+??
I'm waiting to see how it really pans out.

I don't see any sense in going for an NForce2 board until I see something akin to the Asus A7N266-C ACR soundcard with far better dacs than the cheapo Realtek ALC650 used on all soundstorm-equipped NForce2 boards to date....

Also, as a student, I can't afford to upgrade every time I feel like it.

Seems like my next upgrade shall be Barton...

I figured it would take you only about an hour to reply.

The sound isn't so important to me. The ALC650 is fine for me for gaming. I don't listen to music and I don't have a surround setup.
I just don't want high cpu utilization.

On the other hand, for me listening to music is now about 60% of what I do at the computer....

I'll put my 300W Delta ($13 + shipping) up against it......for a 300W PS, it has the combined 3.3 and 5V ratings of a 400W.......

I'm going to bump this thread up, seeing as I'm wondering if Epox will have something to go up against the K7S2...
