8RDA+ Sound quality

Ok I know the debate on the sound quality on this board has been heated. I notice that the board does not have the Sound Storm APU listed as a feature of this board. Now I'm not saying it's not their but it's not listed. Now does the 8RDA+ onboard sound support any positinal 3D audio API's like EAX or EAX HD? I don't have a 5.1 speaker setup so the Dolby Digital is pretty uselss, I'm using Klipsch Pro Media 4.1 speakers. In all my games I use the EAX 3D sound setting cause it is phenominal. So if I get this board and use the onboard audio will I get the same 3D sound in my games as I do with my Sound Blaster Live?

My Son is using an NForce 1 audio solution without the digital out. It sounds great. It also allows EAX 2, not sure of EAX(HD), which the Audigy I am running in my 8k3a+ supports. For some reason the Audigy has problems with some games. I want to go to the NFORCE 2, as I hate waiting for Creative's annual (if you're lucky) driver updates. The Nforce drivers are updated frequently, and the sound quality has improved with the updates. I would like to see a digital out board for the 8RDA+ though (MSI used a daughter board for digital out on the 420 pro). This may be a future option. I don't currently have digital speakers, but I may in the future.

That's great. More reason to buy the EPOX over the other guys. A big reason to buy EPOX over the other guys is a sound driver issue as well. Check Nvidia.com and look at the latest NForce drivers. You will see the audio drivers don't work with a couple of other prior release Nforce 2's. To me that means you have to wait for the MB maker to incorporate changes into the drivers and post them. We all have experience with that. Depending on the company it could be days to months. Again more reason to go with EPOX.

As per the mainboard specifications on our web, it uses MCP-T and so has the enhanced audio

I don't see soundstorm at all listed in the manual, it says that the SPP is the Northbridge chip and the MCP is the Southbrdige chip. Although when it shows the control panel for the Audio settings in the manual Dolby Decoding is listed and useable.

AS ET has stated (about a million times)

The board (8RDA+) uses MCP-T and can decode dolby5.1.

I've noticed that the board has 3 inputs which can be used either as line out/line-in/mic-in or as front left right/back left right/ center, subwoofer. My question is, since I need my line-in jack operable, can I drive my 5.1 sound via the spdif to the speakers and have the line-in working without any problems? Thanx in advance. What it means when the manual says that the firewire is optional? There are two different types of the motherboard?

manuals tend to be for more than one motherboard, so optional means it may be on some models and not on others.

8RDA+ has two firewire ports.

You can output 5.1 audio via spdif.

You may also be able to use the 3 jacks on the back of the board for 6 channel out, then the front pannel connector on the board for line in (i want to do this for CS)
I cant find my mic after moving house, so ill tell you if it works once i find it.
