IBM PC Server case mod...

I just picked up an old IBM server case (320) that I intend to mod with a window and bunch of fans but it appears that the original tray was for dual P1 mobo.

I don't want to removed my motherboard from the current box and then find that the mounting screws don't line up.

Is there a schematic showing the Epox 8K5A2+ motherboard dimensions including screw hole placement?

Thanks for any help.
LBJGH

Here is a pic of the case cleaned of the plastic bits...

Here is a PDF guide of ATX motherboard layouts. I can't seem to find exact dimensions.

Thanks Uncle Bob, that's great... It's the best info I've gotten so far. Maybe I can measure the holes and scale the drawing.

Might I suggest that you take a look at the EP-8RDA+ before making your final decision? ":O}

LBJGH:
You are welcome, always happy to be of some help.

I think he already has the board, Dan. He is just going to switch boxes. (Kind of like a hermit crab does when he outgrows his home....LBJGH wants some measurements on this new "shell" before he moves in! LOL)

... exactly, I just want to make sure my 8k5a2+ will fit into the IBM PC Server 320 case I plan to mod.

I had to make a new motherboard plate in this case:
http://212.32.156.112/cooling/black_jumbo.php
(it houses the equipment in my sig)

Since ATX is a standard it is well documented:
http://www.formfactors.org/developer...x/atxspecs.htm

It was not difficult to make the new plate with those papers, I also had a dead motherboard to test fit but all went well.

Hey thanks for the information Nordic and congrats on the case mod. I'm glad I'm not the only attempting such a mod.

Thanks guys!
LBJGH: Page 12 of 24 in this pdf will give you the measurements you need to drill the holes. Why the measurements aren't given in the metric system is sad, but it's very simple to convert but awkward..

Thanks for the help guys. I drew a standard ATX to scale, printed it out and found that I'll only have to install three additional mobo standoff/supports (red circles).

I guess I'm heading in the right direction now.

it's just your standard server case

I've seen a guy who removed the back plates off two already big server cases, and joined them... Made for one huge mother of a case...

Well I do have two of these cases. In another forum I frequent my buddy suggested setting one case up for the cooling rig and the other for the electronics. I just don't want to loose that much space in the room.

today's update... creating an access panel...

With the help of my handy dandy jigsaw I created a removable side panel... this'll save a lot of time getting into the case and should also help when cutting the window.

That looks awesome!
You better get some more stuff to put into the chassis, it seems awfully empty as it is
