USB 2.0 Driver for WinXP Hi everyone, Just the other day I upgraded from an ECS K7s5a to an Epox 8k9a2+.... so far everything's gone very smoothly... however I have hit a bit of a stump with the usb 2.0 drivers for winxp.. i'll try to explain as briefly as I can.. On the Driver cd the mobo comes with.. there are usb 2.0 drivers available for win98, but for win2k/winxp .. there are none, instead of drivers.. it is a html guide explaining how to use ms's windows update service.. and install the usb 2.0 drivers from there.. 1 problem.. after letting windows update decide what drivers need to be updated in my system.. only my via network device is showing.. seems the usb 2.0 function of my mobo cant be detected.. any ideas? .. am i able to download the actual usb 2.0 winxp drivers on their own anywhere as opposed to relying on windows update?

yep i installed service pack 1 straight after installing winxp .. but i noticed the 'enhanced usb root hub' was still 'driverless' (unknown devices) afterwards.. i'd left the winxp cd in the drive and i decided to do a 'search for driver update' pointing to the cdrom .. it somehow found it on there and installed it as a "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller" with a fourth "USB Root Hub" added to the three that already existed does any of this make sense? so in other words, it all 'seems' to be installed now.. but it's weird that the driver was eventually installed from the original winxp disc? has it installed a standard 1.1 usb driver in place of it and now the usb 2.0 feature is tricked into thinking it's working?

unfortunately nothing thats USB 2.0 lying around here no :/ I suppose it doesn't matter at this stage, however in future I might possibly run into problems so I was hoping to iron out all issues upon installing the new board.... Worst case scenario.. I use the board for all the usb 1.1 stuff and buy a pci usb 2.0 card (fairly cheap i think) for anything that needs usb 2.0 down the track.... although that seems a bit silly when this board has 6 usb 2.0 ports built in.. oh welll.. nothing i can do at this stage... I installed service pack 1 and it still didn't detect/install the appropriate usb 2.0 drivers for this mobo so there's nothing else that can be done i dont think... apart from try to locate a solitary usb 2.0 driver designed for the epox 8k9a2+ ... and i dont like my chances there... besides, it shouldnt be nessacery to have to do that... thanks for your help anyway. Anyone else got any ideas?

Aside from SP1, did you install any other updates? If not, try updating at windowsupdate.com.

I think its probably working mook. As long as you have XPSP1 (with the USB-2 support in it) and then install the drivers it will work. I dont have anything USB-2 either, so ive not tried it on my machine.

Ricochet, I had the same experience with my 8RDA+. The CD provided an HTML guide on using windows update, the whole bit. Like you, windows update didn't show anything remotely related to USB in any of the update categories. So, I chose the driverless item in device manager and selected Update Driver. Windows searched and found a driver for it, identified as 'Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Controller.' The driver is dated 6/1/2002 (5.1.2600.0) so it probably came locally from the SP1 driver cache. I only have 1 USB device and it's an older scanner, nothing USB 2.0. It works just fine, tho.

After you install WinXP SP1, which is what contains the USB 2.0 drivers, you need to go into the Device Manager and right-click the device that has the question mark on it (I think it shows as PCI USB controller or maybe just PCI device) and then pick Update Driver. Then go through the wizard. It should automatically find and install the USB 2.0 driver that was included with SP1. When you install a service pack, some drivers (such as USB 2.0) are not updated automatically. You have to manually update them in this manner to get them to work.

5.1.2600.0 for me too. I am using an integrated xp1 with xp so I am just installing all at once. I dont have an exclamation mark until I install the 8K9A2+ dedicated driver from the Epox site.

Run Msinfo32, software environment, system drivers, scroll down to "usbhub" and "usbehci" It will say USB 2 more than once ![]() Drivers have been updated for old OS, Epox dont have the latest. But for XP I guess MS take over. This from the latest release I could find (www.soyousa.com) Version 2.47 (2002/10/04): Due to legal issue, remove Microsoft EHCI driver stack for Windows XP from the package. End user should go to Windows Update to download this driver or Service Pack 1 by himself.

I just had to sort that out with an 8RDA+ installing winxp. Installed winxp , loaded the driver cd that came with the board, process stopped to tell me that I needed to install sp1 to get function of USB2 , continued anyway because I needed the lan drivers , at completion of cd read I did widows update twice . First to get SP1 , 2nd to get critical updates . still didn't have USB2. Reloaded board cd and it then it installed to completion. Sandra says I have USB2 , but I don't have any devices to check it with. Maybe Santa will get me something OR I'll get a case of the uncontrollable mouse clicking that was discussed here last week. bob |

Still dont know whether I got this sorted, I do have an extra name in the system drivers in system information - usbhub, usb2 enabled hub. Thing that really bothers me still is that it dont say usb 2.0 in the device manager. Any more ideas people that are in a similar situation. BTW to get the extra driver I found another usb driver on the Epox site. I know have 2 that look the same, size etc but are labled different. One is viausb2v2_0_2 and the other is via-usb2.0, the first locks my system and the second doesnt. In both cases I get yellow marks in device and then do a driver update. The second file gives me the extra driver in sys info. Hope that is of a help and please help some more if u can.
