should i download this windows update?

8rda+ first off

here is the deal. i could not get my integrated sound to work in win 2k. so i installed a audigy and everything was fine. then all of a sudden my hardrive got currupted which cased me to have to reinstall everything. then everything wasnt fine lol as i was getting massive instability even at stock speed.

so i decide to load XP thinkin there would be less probs. there wasnt. i was still getting instability.

i took the audigy out, formatted the hardrive, loaded win xp, loaded sp1, loaded the nvidia drivers on the epox cd, and WALLAH. it works now w/ 4 speakers. everything seems to be stable which is good also.

here is my question. i dont wanna ******* everything up again. the sound seems a little damp compared to audigy (that is a bad thing.... as in the audigy has noticibly better audio quality)...

should i download this:

The Audigy is indeed better, unless you need AC3 encoding to go SPDIF out to a reciever....

I'd suggest the 2.0 Nforce drivers on NVidia's website for the NForce....

When you had the audigy in, was your onboard sound disabled ? What PCI slot did you use ? It may have been sharing an IRQ . Try it again with a pci alot that you know is not sharing any IRQ's .

if your not sure if its is sharing an IRQ you should be able to see them during POST, just press the pause key to pause it so you can read... If thats not the case for the 8rda then post back, someone will help you.

never use the driver that you get from window updates. Always get from the vendor better.

i had it in slot 6 originally, and it worked great. however, i then got my water coolin in and my pump is blocking the bottom 3 slots so i had to put it in slot 3....

i will give these new drivers a try and i may try the audigy again if time prevails. i have exams this week so i dont have too much free time.

the original instability prolem occured when i was usin the nf2 drivers from nvidia's site. that is what i used when i first got the board and was just usin the onboard stuff. i had major probs w/ them and zero probs w/ the cd drivers.

the problem was tho, when i would install the drivers off the cd, it would install the soundstorm drivers, even though it was DISabled in bios! that is what i think was messin everything up.

That driver update from windowsupdate.com is the same as you get in the nForce 2.0 drivers. If you do the latter, you won't see the former.

well i got the driver from the windows update, which i guess as mooky said is just the audio portion of the nvidia 2.0, and it works GREAT!

not as good as Audigy but almost as good... probably as good as SB Live 5.1 now
