Angry C1 Error Message on LED

Yup, that's what I get. It's on an 8K5A2+ and I tried resetting:

memory
power connector
CMOS
CMOS battery
CPU....... and nada. Just the C1.

I tried:

different CPU I know is good (other one was before)
different RAM I know is good (other was before) and same

I notice my fan on the video card isn't spinning either and it did before.

Any ideas?

Man I've had my share of luck recently, all bad. Keep a stiff upper lip works so far then it gets so stiff you just gotta scream! Ok, I don't look this mad, but at the moment I kinda sympathize with this guy:

My thoughts exactly. I just dropped my old 8k3a+ into a friends case along with my old xp 2000+ and samsung pc2700 and at first it booted , but then I got the C1 error code. I thought "there is no way, this RAM is killer and works fine" So after a little troubleshooting and getting nowhere, I decided to make sure it wasn't shorting by taking it back out of the case and testing it on a box and it fired right up. So a strip of electrical tape on top of the older tape on the case studs and then a small piece between the screw head and top of the mobo and it is running like a raped ape now. Double check it isn't shorting out before you announce it a dead fred.

Ok, I['ll check my er.....ahem....shorts! LOL

That was all I came up with after I slept on it. As an electrician I understand, this board was just in the same case so this is weird. I'll post back this afternoon when I get a chance to try it.

Thanks all!

It's a no go. Tried it outside of the box on an antistatic bag even without a video card, still C1!

I guess it's RMA but I can't figure why!!! It worked fine a month ago before I got my 8RDA+????? I can't help but think it's something else!

Any other ideas?

I don't think you want to be running your board outside the box on an anti-stat bag do you............aren't they conductive?

Board won't boot without a video card, gotta have a video card in to get a boot according to the EPoX Tech I talked to on the phone some time ago, he said their boards won't boot without some type of video card. And YES, the antistatic bag is conductive on the outside.

I don't have that board. Is C1 a memory error?
BTW, was it the same video card that was on your 8RDA+? (holds breath).

Yeah, the RDA was a bad BIOS flash, has nothing to do with the video card. The card isn't the problem! Read this article, it should go a long way to explaining what seems to be a problem.

Thanks, guys. I've got another motherboard and am up and limping along now. It's bad enough that my wife ran me off her PC saying I was cursed. I tell you, the nerve! I built her darn PC anyway. She knew that and she suggested she wanted it to keep running! LOL

To add insult to injury? I couldn't get an EPOX board (wahhhh) and had to 'settle' for another mfgr. I tried to swap it for my wife's 8K3A+ but she busted me!

Last injury? I spent 2 years in dentists chair with a root canal. Yeech, I know why they call it a root canal, they make a canal by rooting around in your jawbone.

I submit 8K5A2+ for RMA tomorrow and get it off in the mail. To my credit (if you can call it that!) all the components that would not work on this board worked perfectly on the new board, further proving to me the board had somehow faulted.

Ya I had an 8k3a+ which failed indicating a C1 error. Funny though, no code at all for about two minutes then C1 would show.

No it wont boot, but it should go past C1, if everything else is correct all the way to 7F. (assuming you just reset CMOS)
I saw that "C1" but in my case was the DIMM.

Sorry Uncle Bob, I know its of no help to you!
I know how you feel, from 5 orders (3different suppliers) had to RMA 3 of the Items , plus had to get new DIMM
