1/5 doesn't kick in at 166 mhz

I've got an 8KHA+ with a "K" bios chip, updated to 11/02. My system is doing great, but at FSBs above 150, both my Linksys and Netgear ethernet cards plain out die. So after I read that the 1/5 pci divider kicks in at around 166 MHz, i set my FSB to it, went into Sandra, only to see that my pci was still being divided by 4 (41.5). Ethernet card dead too Any ideas? Everything was working great (awesome memory scores), but I need that 1/5 divider so I can surf!

EPoX 8KHA+
1.4 @ 1.58 (10.5 x 150)
768 megs crucial @ cas 2
Thermalright SK-6 w/ Delta 38 cfm
Seagate Barracuda 80gb ata100
Leadtek Winfast Geforce3 TDH

Sandra is not able to determine the speed of the PCI bus - it makes a measured guess.

As discussed in another thread - an oscilloscope would be the medium of choice to measure this - not an old copy of sandra.

In relation to the letter on your BIOS chip - I see a lot of people who think that the letter on this chip means something based on a mis-interpretation of a perhaps mis-construed article. The letter printed or penned on the sticker placed on the BIOS chip does not mean anything whatsoever to the performance or stability of the mainboard.

EPoX tech, you are getting loads of questions about the 8KHA+ and the 1/5 divider! is there a FAQ on EPoX website about it? i know your probably fed up with the question over and over!

Unfortunatley there is no FAQ on this as it is not seriously a valid technical support question

I don't see us updating the knowledge base on this one !

People keep asking questions, but my system keeps performing admirably at 172MHz FSB.

yeh....... arcanus i think that netgear NIC's dont like being overclocked.... your having probs, im having probs, thats what we have in common! i gonna pull the card tonight and see if i can go higher than 1700 mhz using FSB... that should make it pretty obvious if this is the case.

Try running RAID my friend... there is no 1/5 divider !! the chipset is capable but VIA choose not to enable it so no matter how or what kind of BIOS you have there is no 1/5 divider....

It is not about chipset capability or enabling but about BIOS and PLL setup as most of the other readers now understand (dimmrepaer, Kaizer Soze et al) from their detailed and learned discussions.
