Question Nvidia IDE driver in Winxp ?

Anyone able to install the nforce2 IDE driver with success in winxp ?
If I installed it, I just get a blank black screen after the reboot.
If I don't install it, everything works fine.

I noticed that there is no option to install the nforce IDE drive win win2k.

Ps. I am using 8rda+

If you are using version 2.00 drivers you must have SP1 for XP installed first. If you are using them off the CD then try uninstalling and reinstalling from safe mode maybe ?

I have heard that it is the memory running to fast or with to tight timings that causes hard drive corruption. At least thats what I think I read on this forum

Edit : Wooo ! 100 posts

I've said it before, and I'll say it again.. the nVidia 2.00 IDE Drivers are "teh suck". They seem to be hit and miss for most, and no one has yet to provide any proof that they actually do anything. I've had nothing but problems with them, XP would crash, freeze, lag, you name it -- it happened. So, the next time around I opted to not install them, and everything is working flawlessly.

I'm currently at 2300@200x11.5, 4-2-2-2, Aggressive and the system couldn't be stabler (is that even a word?). So, if you're having problems with the IDE drivers, don't press the issue any further, simply do not install them.

Good luck!

- mG!

I had installed xp sp1 before I install the v2.00 driver so that was not the problem.

Like magnux said, it seems to be a hit or miss affair with those 2.0 drivers. I've installed them without a single problem, do I notice any differences? Nope. So if they cause you problems, just don't install them.

I don't know if it makes much of a difference on the 8RDA+, installed the nVidia drivers straight away, but I have an original nForce board, and the nVidia drivers do make a difference on that board. My guess is that it would make a difference on the 8RDA+ too. If you can get it to work, it's probably better to give it a try. You can always "rollback" if it messes up your system.

Just some info, and I have seen others mention problems with the Nvidia SW IDE drivers installed.

With the Nvidia IDE drivers installed I am getting page file corruptions on boot. Doing a CHKDSK after a few boots shows errors on disk.

Without the Nvidia drivers no disk problems whatsoever.

John.

They work fine for me using win2k.

I install service packs before motherboard drivers.

They also worked on winXP.

My HDD is a maxtor +9 80gb.

HOLST

I do the same as you with regard to SP1 and then everything else but could you do me a favour, just to satisfy my curiousity:-

Check your system event log under Administrative tools and see if you have disk errors noteably error 51.

Regards

John.

I had problems with the Nvidia IDE drivers too. The PC would blue screen as InCD loaded. Removed drivers, 100% stable now. I'm using an add-in RAID card, so I don't know if it would cause any problems with HDD corruption.

incd packet driver is a pile of poo, no its a pile of poo with flies on....

It is the most bug ridden piece of sw I have ever laid eyes on...

use it at your own risk....

I unistalled the drive and reinstalled and it seemed fine. Maybe i go back to the XP drivers
