How to install usb2 driver for winxp ?

Hi,

I installed the nforce 2.00 driver and winxp sp1.
I have the "!" next to the usb device so I updated the driver by letting winxp search the correct driver. Winxp was able to install the driver but it does not say usb2 (I dual boot with win2k and I can see usb2 in win2k). I want to update the driver manually. Which directory should I point to ?

Thanks.

If I am not mistaken u can check whether u have the correct usb 2 drivers by going into system information/software environment/system drivers and looking for usbehci - Microsoft USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller and also usbhub - USB2 Enabled Hub.

Hi, bear

There is a pile of USB information here that you should look over. If you have the USB 2.0 controller and root hub loaded, but are seeing yellow exclamation marks, then check the properties to find out the reason for the complaints. If it is a lack of available IRQ's, try going through your BIOS and disabling every device that you don't actually need. While you're there, set the operating system type to PnP Yes (PlugNPlay) and disable preassignment of IRQs for Video and USB. Wouldn't hurt to disable Power Management (ACPI) as well.

I was told that in xp "enhanced" usb device = usb2.
This is what I got so I suppose I am okay but it would be much easier if it would say usb2 (as the case in win2k).

Thanks.

Hi, bear

I guess one never knows how the drivers are going to be named, but of the ones I've seen so far, the USB 2.0 controllers have been called "enhanced" and the USB 2.0 root hubs have been called "2.0". You should see one root hub for each controller in the USB section of Device Manager, with exactly one of each for USB 2.0.
