8RDA+ Using Front & Rear Speakers

THe 8RDA+ manual is a little unclear to me.

I plan on adding a jack on the front of my PC (which attaches to the internal motherboard audio ports) so that I can plug in headphones. However, I would also like to use speakers that I have to plug into the ports on the rear of the motherboard (the outputs where the LAN and other connectors are).

Will the forward mounted headphone plug on the 8RDA+ automatically disable the rear speaker output when I plug in a set of headphones (to the internal connection)? My headphones also have a mic attached. Will it also work in this configuration if I use the forward mounted mic plug?

Thanks,
Clocker

the best way to set up your speakers is to use the Nforce driver's Speaker setup wizard. It will let you know what/where to plug.

If you are using 5.1 speakers, all the audio ports at the back will be used. You gonna get the S/PDIF daughter card to have more output ports

Thanks for your reply.

I just have a single plug that goes to my speakers (subwoofer w/ two satellites). Then, I'll have a plug for my headphones and a plug for my mic.

So, when I plug in my headphones (via the internal connection), will it disable the signal going to my speakers (via the external connection)?

Thanks,
C

Looking at the explanations in the manual if the jumpers on pins 5&6 and 9&10 are removed (which they'll have to be in order to wire the internal connector) then only the front panel speaker output can be used. When the jumpers are present only the rear panel speaker output works. For microphone both front and rear connectors will work (unless in 6 speaker mode where the rear microphone connector becomes the center channel)

Well...

I just decided to try it on my new Rev. 1.1 board (RMA'd my 1.0).

THe audio works great. I have my speakers plugged into the rear port and I also have a front headphone port available. The speakers attached to the rear port get a signal UNTIL I plug in a set of headphones to the front port. At that point, the audio signal is diverted to the headphones and the speakers go dead. Perfect!!

Only problem is that the front mounted microphone port does not appear to work. I can record via the rear port but not the front. Maybe I'm missing something....any ideas? I've played around with the recording settings but no joy yet...
