Need Some Assistance Badly !!!!

Last night while doing some upgrading with my computer, I screwed something up and lost the onboard sound. I'm using a EP-8RDA+ with a XP 2700+ processor. I'm unable to get the onboard sound working again. I reinstalled Windows (98 SE) and then installed the Nforce drivers from the Epox installation disk, then my graphics drivers. I've tried all day to load the audio drivers from the installation disk, but they don't seem to be loading as I still have no sound. I've downloaded the Unified Drivers from Epox's website, the 2.0 version and am wondering if these new updated drivers would rectify my problem. Or is there some way to get the audio drivers from the Epox installation to work. Any help that someone could provide would certainly be appreciated.

what were you upgrading? have you tried removing it and seeing if sound works again? when you reinstalled, was it a full format/reinstall?

also, I'd check the bios settings to make sure nothing in there somehow became turned off that shouldn't bet
hate when that one happens...

You say it happened when you were upgrading stuff... Is it possible that you might have flashed the BIOS and accidentally used the 8RDA BIOS instead of the 8RDA+ BIOS? I remember reading a different thread where someone did that, and their experience sounds similar to yours.

When you go into device manager, do you see the nVidia sound stuff under "Sounds, video and game controllers?"

Cool check

bios,

somehow you may have disabled the onboard sound.

were you upgrading hardware and in the box?

i ask this cause in my early daze, i fried componets on a motherboard, it was the PS/2 mouse port, simple mistake, pain in the butt.

if you reformatted, any hardware drivers (including the new one) you installed will be gone, so unless you loaded the offensive one all over again, you should be good to go.

Obviously you aren't good to go right now, so check it out.

good luck,

baldy

I was trying to install the ATI Omega 3.0 display drivers, so no I don't think I have done anything to the Bios. And in the Device Manager under Sounds, Video, and Game Controllers the Nvidia listings do not appear. I checked in the Bios and the AC '97 setting is set on auto, is there any other things I should check?

When I reinstalled Windows, I did a complete reinstall. I am completely stumped as what to do to get the sound working again.
Would using the updated Unified drivers 2.0 for the 8RDA+ help me out any?

I recommend downloading the unified drivers package and unpacking it with WinZip and then manually installing the sound drivers. I think I've mentioned that before...

One other thing, are you sure you have an 8RDA+ and not an 8RDA? The sound drivers for that board are NOT by nVidia.

I definitely have the 8RDA+. I did try installing the audio drivers seperately as you suggested Mooky, but I still had no luck. I have downloaded the unified driver package and will try the things you have suggested.
