8rda+ and no cd rom

i turned on my pc today and all of the sudden it isnt recognizing my cd roms in windows. it shows them in the bios and device manager but windows explorer doesnt show them at all.
i have:
>uninstalled them and rebooted and it refound them in device manager but i dont have access to them through windows explorer or through start/run
>switched cables with a known good cable and it gave me the same results
>switched ide 1 and ide 2 around. my hd works fine on ide 2 and the cd roms still act the same on ide1 as they did on ide2.
>reinstalled driver 2.0 for the board
>cleared the cmos
>switched jumpers on the drives
>plugged in just one drive at a time on both the middle and end connectors

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

update:
in device manager both the cdroms were showing up and they did NOT have yellow ! next to them. under ide ata/atapi controllers the only thing there was nvidia nforce mcp2 ide controller. no primary or secondary ide channels. i clicked in the ide controllers and told it to update the drivers. it did and i rebooted. now the primary and secondary ide channels are under ide controllers along with the nvidia nforce mcp2 controller, but now both cd roms have a yellow ! next to them and they still dont work.

im not sure what this means but i thought it might help.

fyi: i did disable my antivirus before installing the nvidia drivers and i am running sp1.

thanks

try uninstalling the Nvidia IDE drivers. Device manager was seeing my 2 CD drives as SCSI drives (they aren't), but when I rolled back the Nvidia IDE driver, that problem went away.

Now Windows explorer sees my Philips CD burner, but not my generic DVD-ROM drive (Explorer thinks its a generic CD Drive), while Device manager and the bios see them correctly. Doing this didn't solve all of my problems, but it did help them somewhat. Give it a try.

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

i have tried restoring to different restore points but still now luck. it seems that something is wrong with my registry. may have to reinstall. much as i hate to

figured it out. ms database has this listed.

Remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318

i dont know what it has to do with but its fixed so.....

What do you mean by Upperfilters and Lowerfilters? I don't have those registry keys... Did it actually say that in your registry? Or do those terms stand for something else?

Maybe try repair first, see if that will do it.

thanks for the suggestion uncle bob but the problem is fixed. my last post shows what i had to do to fix the problem.

nanopit- in the registry key that i posted i had the values called "upperfilters" and "lowerfilters" i deleted them, rebooted and my cd roms were back working correctly. i have no idea how they got there or why they were causing windows to not be able to access my cd roms but on reboot all was well......

most of the time i want to know WHY the problem was caused/fixed but in this case i am content with the fact that it is just fixed.
