Question 8RDA+ basic, basic problem at boot

First post, borderline clueless. Here goes:

Just got my 8RDA+, and I'm having pretty basic problems. I've built six or so comps, so I know the elementary stuff, I think.

Right now, I'm having trouble getting it to post, after I was able to at least get into the bios. When I did, I found that it could not spot my IDE drive, so I figured that I had the cable flipped. I shut down, flipped the cable, and now I'm stuck at the point where the onboard LED is at FF, the hard drive has started up, and my monitor light is flickering slowly from yellow to green. Flipping the cable back didn't work. (Earlier, I had a hell of time with the siren going off almost immediately after I'd turn the power on, until I unplugged a case fan from the second fan power. yeesh. :clown: )

I've tried reseating everything, memory, vid card, cables, nothing. I figure the memory -- new Samsung 2700 -- is ok since it did boot once, but I switched it out for a stick of Crucial, nothing. The drive is an old IBM deskstar that I know is good, ran it just last week, and I'm just trying to sort through the bugs on this new system before I try to switch over my main hard drive. I've read somewhere that the nforce2 chipset doesn't get along with hard drive jumpers well, so I've tried taking them all out, setting them to cable select, setting them to master, but no dice.

Help would be great.

Hello ohhowhappy and welcome to our forums!
Can you give us a list of your parts?
1. does the led on your mother board run through it's checks when you try to boot? After running through them it should stop at FF.
3. Be sure to include the type and specs of your power supply.

Thanks for responding so fast.

The psu is a new Antec Truepower 430.

When I was first having the problem that appeared to stop when I unplugged the case fan, the LED was going through a sequence. But now as soon as I boot it goes right to FF.

I've also tried clearing the CMOS, putting in a different hard drive. No luck.
