8k7a and 8k7a+ capacitor problems

hi,

before i contact my retailer i was hoping to find out if the problem i have with both an 8k7a and an 8k7a+ board is covered by the warranty.

Both boards have been rock-solid for just over a year, but since the start of 2003 have been steadily growing unstable. I've just spent the weekend checking out the various components and found they are OK when I noticed a problem with one of the capacitors.

Looking more closely at the 8k7a board I noticed:

EC41 has a raised top and a kind of powdery residue on the top
EC35 has a raised top and a small amount of residue
EC25, EC36 and EC40 have a raised top

And looking at the 8k7a+ board:

EC25 and EC34 have what can only be described as 'crusty' tops

EC32 and EC38 have a small amount of residue

EC35, EC36, EC37, EC39, EC40 and EC58 have raised tops

Both boards are revision 1.1 and I believe these 'faulty' components are causing my troubles.

At the risk of being thrown off the forums - I have to say these boards have never been overclocked or particularly over used

I can give more detail on the various problems that have arisen recently if needed.

I'd appreciate any thoughts on this,

Many thanks,
rob

Hello rob200 and welcome to our forums! we can make room for another non-overclocker! ":O}

If you haven't overclocked and your sure it the motherboard and it seems to my ignorant self that you are, then EPoX most assuredly will honor your warranty

Products sold before Sept 2002 only had a 1 year warranty. Only after Sept 2002 has the 2 year warranty been in place...

This osunds reminiscent of an insufficient PSU being used that has created capacitorial over-draw on the mainboard.

i think that made sense

you mean the psu isn't powerful enough? causing the capacitors to get stressed and literally blown their top

why would it only just happen after a year of no problems?

i regularly check the internals and they weren't like this between christmas and new year
