Slow bootup / slow tray load once in windows

I'm using a D740X U133 Maxtor 80GB hard drive with 8RDA+ r1.1, XP SP1 and NVidia 2.0 drivers, tried both with SWIDE and normal WHQL IDE drivers...

Seems as there's a 10-15 second longer pause in the booting of Windows than my old KT266A board but more importantly startup tasks load considerably slower than my KT266A board, same setup... does the NForce IDE controller suck or does this drive just suck on this chipset?

HDTach reports about 39mb/sec, 12ms, 112mb burst

Do you have Norton or another AV running? Those tend to slow things down a bit.

Yeah, tried with and without, but with i'm comparing it to my KT266A board so I dunno, these drives suck I guess

Try to deinstall nVIDIA(TM) IDE CONTROLLER and leave those drivers, that windows uses, it helped me and my 8rda.

I've tried all three drivers now, Standard PCI, NVidia SW and WHQL Nvidia, with the new 1/17/03 bios HDTach reports CPU utilization rates from 46% for SWIDE, 58% for NVidia WHQL and 62% for Windows Standard, rest of the rates show no difference

Was 10% for SWIDE utilization in previous bios revisions

Flash to the latest bios then run bootvis, should get your boot times down quite allot.

OverDose , You could try START>RUN> Type in "msconfig" , click OK. Then go to the Boot.ini Page and change your Timeout=30(default) , to something lower , I have mine set to "5" . Then reboot and upon start-up click "Don't tell me and don't run config/check on start-up." You'll get that question anytime you change something in msconfig , it will run on bootup , but will let you know something has been changed unless you tell it not to point out the obvious. This tweak along with using bootvis allows a faster cold start even with Norton running upon start-up. I don't want to get into a mine is faster than yours topic either. Did you run bootvis correctly ? The recommendation is to do boot+drivers trace 3 times (minimum) back-to-back , and then run Optimize. Hope this helps your bootup times.
