Post Stuck on FF...try this...what should be a STICKY

8RDA+ BIOS ***Top Tip*** quote:

Hi All,

Dont know if you all do/know about this (sorry if you do )

Had a bad experience last night with my Epox, turned out the BIOS had become corrupted and my PC refused to boot (over did it a little whilst oc'ing ), nothing would sort this. Tried resetting the CMOS (battery out, CMOS clear jumper, no power.... you get the idea) for about 5-6 hours still nothing, started to think id need a replacement BIOS chip.

Luckily i had access to another PC and the net so made myself a Win98 startup disk, downloaded the latest BIOS and Awardflash.exe. I then put this in and rebooted, it took a couple of resets but eventually did boot and it reflashed the BIOS, it then rebooted and all was fixed. Problem sorted ive not got a BIOS recovery disk sitting here for any eventuallity.

As i originally said, im sorry if you knew about this......i didnt and thought id pass it on, may help a couple of people out.

Dave teh Epox n00beh.

Lanker, whats with the know it alls comment? I'm glad to see that a bootable disc with Awflash and a BIOS image on it worked for you. It does not work for everyone though. When I corrupted my BIOS on my 8RDA+ I tried that every night for a week to no avail and then I took my board up to a friends and he did a hot swap and reflash and all was well again. He had the same problem before I did and the bootable disc method did not work for him either and it obviously didn't work for Muzz.
So good on you for having some luck with it, but don't bag on others by refering to them as know it alls because they say it doesn't always work, that aint cool.

Well I have something he may be able to explain.......... I just took the bios chip out of the old board..when it was in that board it would not post , it went str8 to FF..

OK are you paying attention?

I put it in this board and it works FINE!!! I am using it right now as I type this... I pulled it out of the board that was FF, and put it in this board and it's working... who would've thought?

And to think... if only I flashed it.....

Maybe it is a good way if ONLY the bios is corrupt... but OBVIOUSLY FF WILL show up if there are other problems also.... there's the proof right there.

Ummmmm, I'll cop, I'm the guy Randy B came to. I had to RMA the board. I had plenty of tries at just what you suggest and can assure you it doesn't always work. If it had, I would be the first to say such. This thread shows my woes with a failed BIOS flash and subsequent inability to fix it.

Your attitude toward others will not be tolerated here, please refrain from standing quite so tall on your soap box and throwing spears, ok?

Nuff said! [And, no this doesn't qualify for a sticky.]
