8K3A+ and the Barton?

I've been reading bits and pieces about how the new Barton CPU's need motherboards with certified Ampage ratings of 45A or so...

So will the 8K3A+ officially support the Barton range of CPU's with a new bios flash?

I would hope so considering how well it handles overclocked cpu's with heavy current draw.
(One would guess the same applies to the 8k5A and the 8K9A as well)

Some official conformation would be nice though.

Anyone heard word?

Not yet... Although, I'm sure that this would be a high priority for all Mobo mfgrs. I'd bet the farm that all mobos (not just Epox) that 'can' run Barton, will get bios updates within the next few weeks. I do not think there is anything in Barton that would be a deal breaker. My guess is most KT333 mobos and up should be able to run the extra L2.

*sighs* there is allways one smartie around aint there? *tease*
i dont care about the 8RDA. ive "ONLY" got a 8k3a+.
Its fast, uber stable and i want it to be able to accept as many upgrades as possible to extend its life.

A XP2500+ barton at 2Ghz+ would be a nice upgrade... especially as i run LOTS of divx encoding. That extra cache will really help out!

I'm willing to bet that the 8k3a3117 bios added Barton support for the 8k3a as well.  We'll find out for sure soon enough though.

What is this 3117 BIOS? Can't say I've heard of it.

*edit* ok I found it - but without a changelog I'm reluctant to install it

I would also like Barton support if it is possible

One way to keep look out is to watch for a new BIOS, we usually get them here in the EPoX topic a little before or at the same time as the EPoX site depending upon the BIOS.

Scouting the forums, I find that some people state absolutely that 8ka3 & Barton work together - with the newest bios - others state definitely that its no go. Nowhere do I see anything by Epox addressing the issue.

i believe that the barton will not work on the 8k3a+ my reason..the barton is a 333mhz fsb cpu..im not sure if the KT333 supports the 1/5 divider that is required for your pci bus to run in spec..correct me if im wrong..

That part is ok... it does have a 1/5... and is supported by 333fsb CPUs... I think the question relates to treatment of the additional 256 cache.. However, in terms of oc'ability... I've heard that the extra cache makes it run hotter and is harder to get to run at higher speeds.. Just as well, I think I will stick with Tbreds for the duration of the socket A... Unless I am proven wrong (which wouldn't be the first time. )
