Random reboots on 8RDA+

My PC randomly reboots without any special reason. Strange its stable when im running games, 3dmark or prime, but when i browse internet or even typing in word with seti or prime in the backgronud i got reboot. Sometimes its happening after several minutes and sometimes it takes hours to reboot. I have winXP.

My sys specs:

Epox 8RDA+
Tbread A 1700+ @ 1880 (188x10) @1.775V
1 stick 512MB Twinmos PC3200 @2.9V
Gainward GF3 Ti200 @220/500
300W generic PSU
temps: CPU 41C ,chipset 32C no VDD mod (prime is running)

If i give more voltage to CPU it will not improve stability, in fact reboots are more frequent.

Please give me some advice,
thanks

I may be wrong but it may the overvoltage protection kicking in on the board. Anyone?

It could be the overvolt protection as I have been having that problem also. I can run prime an surf the net at 1.8v but at 1.825v an prime it will just black screen with in a minute. It is not my power supply, 400 watt antec. An watch mbm right before it does it the +5v is 4.9v.

thank you for reply,

hmmm you think its overvoltage protection, my +12V is avarage 12,75V and +5V is 4,89V all the time. I think maybe one on my PSU voltage lines suddenly browns out, its poor PSU, specialy when looking on +12V

Because the 5v is low and the 12v is high, I would say the odds are pretty high that you need a better psu. If possible, test with another one to make sure this is the problem.

So its time to spend some money... again

frostmoon , a guide to psu's can be found here http://www.ocworkbench.com/2002/ecs/...de/psuFAQ1.htm
scroll down to "next" to see the answers to the questions from the first page. What I really like about the FAQ is that they don't recommend a specific brand , just what to look for when buying and why. Even though it is written for a different brand motherboard the info applies to all motherboards.

very good info timbob2469, thank you

i have one question after reading this:

"Most mobo’s are designed to take most power out of the 5.0V rail and used it for the 3.3V and the 2.5V for the dimms. But other mobo’s uses the 3.3V rail for the dimms and also for the rest of the mobo circuits."

What rail Epox 8RDA+ is using most ? 3.3V or 5.0V ?
Anyone can answer this ?

I put the voltages in manually, as opposed to leaving them as default in the bios.
works for me.
