8K5A2+ and CDRW.

ok then just finished setting me mates pc up... didnt have time until yesterday

now one thing i noticed is that the Plextor CDRW (121032A) is stuck on pio mode only in the bios.

it shows up as multi word dma 2 in system devices.

its got the latest bios installed and the CDRW is sharing a ide cable with a cdrom which is running at udma33.

tried it on its own, still no joy and as slave and master no luck.

and enabling and disabling that CDRom UDMA setting in the bios.

any ideas.

cheers

I'm not sure if this is relavent, but my 16x plex seems to be the same way. Bios shows PIO mode, and XP says multiword DMA. It hasn't caused a problem... always burned great. I would take a closer look but I've just taken it out for a new DVD burner.

If it burns full speed ok, I'd just leave it. BTW, for disk on the fly, you should try to keep 'em on separate channels.

There is an undocumented jumper setting that enables DMA mode on the burner. If you look at the back of the burner you have the power cord and the flat IDE cable. Now, look at the opposite side of the power cord at the bottom left, there you will se two jumper pins. Here's the trick: put an ordinary jumper on these two pins and there you go, DMA mode enabled everywhere!
