New audio driver for 8K3A+ w/6channel ALC650

Realtech released a new audio driver for those of us whom have the ALC650 6 channel on board audio configuration (such as the 8K3A+)--date 2-25-03, if I remember the date correctly.

I was having problems running Medal of Honor Spearhead and noticed in some of the troubleshooting FAQ's that it might have been caused by an audio confict. I tried most of their tips without success and wasn't willing to sacrifice the image quality I bought my TI4600 for.

It had been a while since I had checked for an audio driver update so I went to EPoX but they were offering the same driver I was already using. Then I checked at RealTech and here it is.

It seems as though the game is running smoothly now and time will tell. I still have to disable all programs in the startup, which isn't necessary to run any of the other games I enjoy playing.

EDIT: I take it back!! Spearhead still crashes to desktop! What to do next?

Not much info to go on there!

What have you tried, other than updating the soundcard driver?
Which version of the VIA 4-in-1 drivers are installed?
Which graphics card drivers do you have?

guess I could have given a little more info.

here it is:

8K3A+ w/ 10-25-02 bios

Win XP Home w/ many of the services disabled as found at BlkViper.com

XP 1600+ nothing OC'ed at the moment

1 stick Corsair CMX512-3000

Using onboard audio

MSI GeForce4 Ti4600 w/ 40.72 driver

Hyperion 4in1 V.4.45

Western Dig. WD800JB

I have tried other video drivers- In dxdiag I have set hardware sound acceleration to "basic" as advised in other discussions.
I was a little OC'ed but set everything back to optimum.
System is nice and cool due to H2O.
3DMark2001 runs smooth and gives me a score of around 11,500.

If I've left anything out please let me know.

I finally got Spearhead to work by:

1)updating audio driver to "a3401"

2)went back to 30.82 video driver

3) in the video driver I put a check in open GL use fast mipmap filtering and use up to 10MB of memory for textures.

4)run dxdiag>sound>move sound acceleration slider to "Standard". (sounds like some people have to move it "basic")

Maybe I went too far with all this but at least it works now and I got through it without crashing back to desktop.

I'm glad I bought that game used for $15 because it sure ain't worth the $45 asking price new. A lot of fun but a lot of aggrivation too. It's makin me think twice about EA in the future.
