8RDA and Creative Audigy problem

If I place my Audigy card in my new mobo and load the drivers my network (3Com NIC) quites working. Unload the drivers and the network works fine again. The card works fine on a 8k5a2+ motherboard.

I'm really underwhelmed with this mobo and Epox support related to this issue. Epox provided an initial (single) suggestion but has failed to respond further when that did nothing.

Can anyone here help?

Have you rearranged the cards in their slots?

Yes. And rearranged to have no IRQ conflicits. Using only slots 3,4,and 5. (Why sell a card where you really can use only a few of the slots they provide? PR is about what it is worth.) Same problem no matter where I place the cards. The time wasted is on the order of days.

Have APIC and/or ACPI enabled? You might need to install Windows without it... perhaps the NIC or Audigy doesn't properly support one or the other and it isn't a chipset issue at all? If it were me, I'd just grab a new NIC and call it good since they're a dime a dozen. I know that's not the acceptable solution, but the easiest to enjoy a great motherboard sooner.

It is a brand new NIC, just purchased. Both the new one or an older one have the same problem.

APIC is at default, I believe (not at home right now). Everything (system and hardware) installed clean and new. Same setup and install process used previously with the 8k5a2+.

Seems to me this has to be a chipset or bios issue.

Many thanks for the suggestions.

Which Creative drivers are you using? Hopefully the latest from last month?

Yes, tried the latest (downloaded from SB at end of last month) as well as a couple older ones. No effect on the problem. The sound card does work fine in all these situations, it is the ethernet that gets hosed.

Thanks again.

Might be some problem with too high IRQ, try re-arranging so you get the lowest IRQ possible for the card.

Yes, have tried the cards in various slots. Have place the sound card in 3 and 5. Also tried 1 and 2 even those aren't that good. Have had the NIC card in a varity of positions too.

Got me stumped, obviously. Thanks again.

Took the NIC and Audigy cards out and cleared the driviers and uninstalled any software. Also cleaned the registry.

Started with the GF4 in the APG slot and the Highpoint RAID in slot 5.

Placed the Audigy in slot 4 and installed the latest drivers. All worked fine.

Next placed the 3Com NIC in slot 3 and installed driver. The Audigy stopped working but the NIC works fine.

Just the opposite from what I saw when the NIC was installed ahead of the Audigy.

OK techs where the heck are you????? How bout a little help?

I've decided the board just sucks. Time for a new one, and no more headache.

My board or the 8RDA in general? Actually don't know why I'm asking since I agree with either statement!!

Was thinking of RMAing it tomorrow.

hehe wonder if 3.1 could be ran with the current technology parts?? I was pushing win98 se as its a 16bit OS and doesn't mess with irq's and stuff like XP or 2k1.. maybe as a test to see if its able to reenact the same senerio of issues on the 16bit os.

No, don't have any 16bit OS around.

it's not the board but the chipset that is to blame. nvidia is pulling a serios move. they want to controll the hardware market in the future. it comes as no suppries that many competitors devices no longer work on nvidia chipsets.

I have never succesfully installed any networking componant under xp without a full reinstall with all the devices present on boot. again this is not epox's fault.

please peeps. please
