Down in a blaze of glory

Hi guys. Today marked an interesting milestone on the dumbass highyway for me. As I was changing over to a volcano 7+ and a new AIUCB 0303 CPU I made a VERY VERY bad mistake that was not realized until later. My machine has a Varible resistor that helps out with the VDD mod. As it is very easy to adjust the Core I epoxied the resistor into the case away from everything. As I installed the new stuff my hand must have slipped and hit the resistor. I spent 30mins. looking for the reason why my computer would not boot up. By chance I touched the Athlon heat sink that was cooling my North Bridge and it was scalding hot. 30 secs later I saw the FF lights flicker. At this point is was like watching a sick patient dying of ebola!! The FF became F and then F and then blank. The green power on light dimmed and then the Priest was called in. The smell of the A3 version of my fantastic Nbridge began smelling. My attempt to lower the core voltage was too late. My Nforce 2 is now at the pearly gates and will surely get in as she overclocked great until my dumb ass screwed up. Saddened by the action I went into mourning!!! LOL

Well thats the story. I would like to start the "my fried board club" by asking everyone to POST their experiences and what happened. It should be a great thread as we can learn from our own and others mistakes. Please do NOT post if you RMA'd your board because you suck and should be banned from the forum completely! I do not have any regrets other than big hands and after some consideration I think I may purchase another 8Rda+. I have built some P4 machines lately and I have been VERY impressed by their performance but not too much by the price. Over the last year I built about 70 AMD machines and 10 INTEL P3 and P4 machines. Not switching sides so to say but I am considering waiting on either the Athon 64 or the new P4 processor as my XMS 3500 should be good with either.

For now my old IBM 300PL 300mhz Celeron based RED Hat 7.2 Linux Machine will have to do.

Please list your screwups to make me feel better

thats why i used a 470 ohm fixed resistor in front of variable resistor.

i don't know if that makes you feel better, but it certainly makes me feel better.

I blew up my 8kha+ from running VDDR at 3.2 volts for 6 months.
I also killed 2 sticks of cricial 2100 DDR.
Killed a matrox G400 by overclocking it.
ive killed numerous durons messing with cooling and volt mods.
Killed a P3 450 by voltmodding and overclocking.
Killed an 8k3a+ as well, but I never worked out why it died.

ET is the worst, he killd 4 or 5 Tbird 1400's in a vapochill..

Nope.

850E is just as quick and cheaper.

GB is more of an IPC product and thats a pretty limited market to get into.

Springdale on the other hand is gona kick ass

Talking

I thought I was careful too LOL Oops. I am really thinking of waiting on the Springdale boards. The Epox 8Rda+ was a blast but I think I may hold my breath for the new fastest thing. I hope the springdale will be a great chip!!!
