PnP Problems with 8rda+

I posted a while ago about my USB probs, and now realise that the USB is fine, as I have them working now.

My issue is in the IRQ settings, well, actually the PnP for the mobo, all my cards are pnp compliant, and all my PCI devices conflict with intergrated periferals on the mobo.

for example, my modem (when installed) stops my USB from working... and when I go into device manager (i'm on win2k) I cannot change any DMA, i/o, or IRQ settings, as they are apparently not PnP compliant, all of my devices are, and yet the mobo seems to think not,

has anyone else had this kind of problem, or can anyone shed some light?

much, much appreciated
-George

thanks for the reply maria,

I checked out how many IRQ's are actually being shared, and found out that 8 different devices were being shared by two IRQ's,..

I have looked all over the forum for simillar cases, and found out that alot of people were having some issues with the IDE controller copying files choppilly, and in some cases, taking up 50% CPU etc.. this issue was resolved by people "reserving" irq's for their IDE controller, as it was being shared,...

same thing here, except with my USB, although i have noticed that people (from the pics posted) had up to 21 IRQ assignments, and mine only goes up to 15, as when I disabled my com ports, (I use my LPT) my eight devices were now spread over four different IRQ's,.. so my PnP does seem to work, only I run out of IRQ's at 15??!!

I have no idea why,. and can't seem to find any information either...

thanks in advance, for any help people provide me

Send a message via ICQ to golfer49

Also, do not use PCI slots 2 & 6, they share IRQ with the AGP slot.

thanks golfer49, I am not using PCI 2 or 6, yet my AGP card seems to be sharing IRQ with my IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers,

Any idea what this controller is for and why it is being shared??

thanks

IEEE 1394...

That is your Firewire (or Ilink) high speed transfer device bus, if you are not using it disable it in BIOS. I have heard of it causing conflicts with IDE controller when enabled.

ok, i've changed the bios to APIC mode,.. does this mean i have to disable acpi?

also, after the chang, there is no change in IRQ's in win2k either, i've trried switching between the two, and no changes at all.

Will I have to re-install win2k?

also in my device manager, under "computer" i have "Standard PC" as the driver. Will I have to change this?

also, there is a "IRQ steering" tab in there aswell, and I have three options enabled,

use IRQ steering
Get irq table using ms specification table
get irq table from real mode PCIBIOS 2.1 call

All options are enabled, then underneath that in the "IRQ routing status" info, it reports

PCI IRQ Routing Disabled
IRQ Table not found.

any ideas? is this why the APIC will not work, and i only have 15 IRQ's to allocate?

thaks again for any help

I've had a similar problem for MONTHS and I tried various bios'es - now running bios 3305.

Sporadically, the 8rda+ will not detect one of my USB device upon booting (I got 2 USB devices in total) and I will have to unplug and replug physically the device while in windows to make it active again (rebooting does not solve it) - I got one USB mice and one USB Joystick device...it's either one of them not being detected ONLY every N boots - It may work fine for days and then I loose one of them - I don't believe this is windows related cos' it does work fine at times for days - seems more like some PnP/USB detection issue at boot-up in the board/bios...

I'm running APIC and I've disabled serial, IEEE 1394 in bios but it is still happening...

Any recommendation would be useful - this is rather annoying indeed!

Thanks,

The BIOS doesn't handle USB enumeration beyond finding a keyboard and providing INT21 handling of the keyboard.

Other than that, the BIOS doesn't get involved in USB. When Windows comes up, it re-enumerates all the USB devices anyhow. This may include a reset, depending on the device driver.

Personally, I'd suspect either the USB hardware, or one of the USB drivers - either the OHCD driver, or the USB device driver.

Thanks Áedán - do you know if there is a way to reinstall the OHCD driver separately - I could not find much references on this subject...

Also am running nForce2 2.03 driver set.

Thanks,

When your checking irq's are you checking them in windows or in bios?mine shows limited irq's in bios but windows shows all 20 with all sharing done on 20 by the onboard stuff.

Exact same here.
Have to unplug either my mouse (trust Ami mouse 250s) or my logitech wingman force feedback joystick.
Reboot doesnt fix it, but a shutdown/restart does as does unplugging.
Tries a different mouse (noname usb) and a Saitek cyborg joystick. Same thing ocurrs.
I even formatted and reinstalled XP - same thing.
no problem with the devices on an ABIT KT7A RAID board with all the same hardware attatched

Some more reports HERE - I have resinstalled windows, tried many many settings in bios and it is STILL happening...how could this not come from the board when 1) many users are reporting this issue 2) it was working on my previous board with a different chipset which I will not name here...

Getting tired of going under my desk to replug usb devices in order to force-get them redetected...

It's beginning to look like it might more of an nForce2 issue, if other boards are doing it to. In that case, it may be that only nVidia have the answer (or not!) Not something that makes me feel very happy. I've got a USB device that's rather touchy. It doesn't work very well on nForce2 (or VIA for that matter!). Intel's a bit touch and go on the init, but ok otherwise.
