Unhappy nforce 2 dos audio on 98se

Is there anyway to use the nforce 2's audio in dos games on 98se? Preferably using the dos prompt.

It will be hit and miss at best.

Might be easyer to disable the onboard and use an old PCI soundcard.

Is there a way to make it work at all then?

(installing another sound card and having to swap between them would be too much effort for how little i use dos)

but as even my pentium 3s POS ess integrated sound worked in dos im sure nvidia could get theirs to work in dos

Your PIII ESS device emulates a SB card in hardware.
nVidia's audio doesn't. It is possible to emulate SB card in software, but it requires hooking certain interrupts that Windows won't allow to be hooked. It also has a tendancy not to work too well! There may be one or two programs that will attempt to do the same thing with a DOS box. I don't remember off the top of my head.

A number of DOS games used the Miles audio drivers. Technically a Miles driver could be written for the nVidia audio, but the number of people who would use it would not make it worthwhile.
