How was this "very accurate reading" performed? You see, I'm very dubious about a lot of this "thermal management" - there's just too many ways to be inaccurate.

I say very accurate because the thermal sensor was right up the backside of the CPU, and the mobo was saying 70C~, I just added another 10C to make it more likely.

So I suppose it wasn't very accurate, but 80C couldn't have been far off, wouldn't surprise me if it was within 5C!

Heh, I trust those thermal sensors about as far as I can throw them. Given they're so light, they generally don't go very far.

The thing is, if your heatsink does fall off, it won't take very long to get to 110C (and back down again!), so the potential for damage is pretty limited. After all, it's not going to be that hot for more than a few milliseconds, if that!

On the other hand, if you're running your CPU that hot all the time, there's a fair potential for damage, just like running it on excess voltage for a period of time.

Bump^

This thread is too good.

I gave up worrying about temps too much. I don't care anymore, if I am 50C idle and running games into the 60's. As long as I'm not crashing and I'm clocked balls to the walls. "Fock it, clock it and rock it."

I would like atleast the choice of whether I want to read one or the other. An external sensor can never be as accurate as an internal one.
