200GB IDE drive and 4G4A+

Hey guys,

I've got a 4G4A+ mobo, and want to purchase a 200GB hard drive to take the place of the 120GB drive I have at present.

I know about the 137 GB Hard Drive Capacity Barrier with some IDE chips in some mobos, I know I would need for my IDE chip to allow for implementation of 48-bit addressing required for hard drives larger than 137.4 GB.

Does anyone here know if this board will be able to address the whole hard drive as a 200GB drive, and not just 137.4GB?

I have windows XP installed and most of the applications I have installed are able to address that big of a hard drive, but I can't seem to find this information concerning my motherboard and BIOS.

Thanks in advance.

I just went through this with a 200gig WD hard drive and a KT333 motherboard. My HD came with a ATA100 PCI control card. You have to use the control card to see the drive in its proper size. This way can partition it and format the drive and once done, you can take the PCI card out and use the drive on the onboard IDE channel.

Your hard disk manufacturer should be able to supply you with software that can create a hardware abstraction layer in order to partition the hard disk without need for further hardware.
