2400+ and 8KTA3L?

Howdy. I was wondering if anyone here can help me with a little CPU detection problem?

I have an epox 8KTA3L motherboard, which previously had a duron 900 stuck in it. I got a bit sick of it, and saw that my motherboard could support up to an athlon 2400+ with an updated BIOS. I've bought the new CPU, and whacked it in my motherboard, but both BIOS and windows claim it's an unknown CPU.

It does say it's running at 2000mhz with a multiplier of 133*15 (which it automatically defaulted to), and seems to be running alright. The temperature stays around 37 degrees celcius. I've changed the jumper on my motherboard to set the bus speed at 133mhz instead of 100, and I've flashed my BIOS to the most recent one on the EPOX website (8/7/2002).

I tested my friend's athlon 2100+ and it worked fine. It detected straight away in BIOS and windows with no fiddling whatsoever. The clock multiplier showed 1733mhz and windows and bios recognised it as a 2100+

My question is should my board be detecting my athlon 2400+? If it keeps running as "unknown cpu", will it only be operating at 2000mhz, instead of the 2400 it's supposed to be doing? And is there any fiddling I can do to get it to run at 2400?

If you need any extra information about my system I'll gladly post it. I realise it would run perfectly if i bought a newer board, and that my ram will be slowing it down (pc-133), but I only had enough money for a new CPU... Help anyone?

Send a message via ICQ to golfer49

An XP2400 runs at 15 X 133 = 2000MHz, it does not matter if it shows up as unknown, it is still running as it should.

The CPU will run fine, expect a bios update to get the CPU naming right.
