8rda+ wont post FF and 04 errors

Ok, first i had a problem when i tried to use my 1 ghz t-bird chip...thought it might be bad cus i was getting the alarm and "01" error. so i bought a new t-bred 2100+ rev b chip. installed it and now im getting a ff and 04 error. not once has anyhting showed up on my monitor so im unable to enter bios even. here are my specs:

2100+ tbred rev b
8rda+
corsair twinx llpt 3200 cas 2
ti4200
2x120gb maxtor drives

ive tried running without drives, even without a video card...no progress on getting past post. ive heard that nforce boards are having probs with fast mem like corsair so i went and bought some cheapo slower mem to see if that would work...still getting ff and 04 codes. i get ff when i let it boot normally, i get 04 when i hold insert down and then boot. any other suggestions?

"FF" has two meanings!

If you've not got any activity at all (IE, no BIOS, no POST, no anything), then it means that something in your system is so upset the BIOS couldn't start the POST. Things might include trashed BIOS, bad CPU etc.

If you've got through the POST/BIOS, then "FF" simply means the machine went ahead and tried to boot the OS. In other words, everything went ok.

The code on the display has no meaning if the system got through POST, or if you're in the BIOS setup screen.

The code on the display only really has meaning if the system stops before/during the POST. Then, the displayed code refers to the bit of code the BIOS got stuck on.

I too had experienced the dreaded FF (this is my first PC build). However, I was lucky to learn that my bios was not bad (I was posting). For information on how to proceed when you are posting, please read the following forum:

FF error code - Help please

BTW .... I'm very impressed with Áedán's knowledge. I have enjoyed reading (and learning) his posts. That's a guy who really knows his stuff!
