1.8 GHz P4 + EPoX EP-4SDA = ?

I'm fairly new to overclocking so i was wondering how far you think i could OC this set up. I have plenty of extra case fans (2x 120mm fans. one blowing over the cpu, one over my gfx card etc.) and a good thermaltake heatsink (volcano 7+) so i figured im ready to overclock =]

if anyone feels like helping me out please post here with help on what to do and how to do it.

Thanks.

Don't ask us man go get your hands dirty then tell us what you get. We look forward to hearing what your able to get out of your setup, any Questions then ask away just as long as you know the basics i.e. Voltages cooling ext…. then you should be ok.
Good Luck

Welcome to AOA Greg0r,

Sorry, I'm an AMD guy myself... so I'm not familiar with good P4 mobos. What core is your P4? If it is fairly new, it should have 512 cache, which makes it a northwood (that's a good thing ).

If that's the case, I will make the assumption your mobo has a 1/5 divider, or has a pci lock... Either way, take the FSB up to 133mhz (533 if you believe the marketing). You should be safe there, but if you have stability problems, bump the vcore a bit. Then just take it up a notch at a time until it's not stable anymore.

Your cooling should be fine, but just keep an temps anyway.

One more thing, what kind of memory are you running?

EDIT: Good luck, and enjoy.. Definitely read up all you can. Things can go wrong, and it's always a good thing to learn as much as you can before trying...

Download wcpuid from aoafiles... It will tell you.

When did you buy the CPU? As I said, I'm not an expert, but since it is a socket 478, you at least have a good shot. I know very little about sis 645 chipset.... to play it safe, slow your hdd in your bios to ata66 before trying.

As long as you have good cooling, and don't up the vcore much, your CPU is safe. If you overclock it a bit too much, odds are the only major risk is data loss from corruption, and a bit of frustration. Take it slow, read up as much as you can and you'll be fine.

I just downloaded and ran WCPUID and it says its a socket 478. As far as i can see the Level 2 Cache is 256kb which I'm guessing means its not a northwood... =/

That's too bad, it's a williamette. It's an older core and will not oc much... Odds are you will not be able to get to 133fsb. You should take it slow, just up it from 100, by 1 or 2 at a time, and look for the CPU's limit.

good luck with it.
