Volt Modding 8KHA & XP...

Hello there

Just wandered what results other people had got from volt modding there 8kha with XP processors.

I only gained 10hz using 2.04v. I added a single 220k resistor to pin 2 on to ground. This gave me 2.19v when set to 1.85 in BIOS.

I found that I could boot into Windows at 2.15v without protection problems occuring but it didn't help my overclock. Whilst I could run Windows at 1780 I didn't have stability at over 1740.

Anyone managed to get good results with volt modding and XP's ?

Hey Shelton,

I had the same problem you are having now. I used a 200Kohm resistor which roughly gave me 2.18volts in the bios. However when I loaded in Windows my machine went crazy and kept rebooting. The reason for our problems is the CS5301 voltage regulator chip. The chip itself has an over current protection mechanism which kicks in when our hungry XP's eat more current and goes above the threshold of the current protection thus causing the rebooting/Windows protection errors. I have eventually overcome this problem with the help of Macci and my extreme patiences with soldiering. What you need to do is soldier a 60-62kohm resistor to pin 4,5,6 and a 47-50kohm pot to pin 7 and dial up the pot so the resistance is 1/3 compared to resistance from pin 4,5 and 6.

PS Without this mod I could only achieve 2.03volts stable.......

Sounds interesting.

Are all the pins then grounded ?
I don't suppose you have any piccys or a thread containing them.

Since I didn't get the returns I was expecting from the board mod I set to work on volt modding my G Force 3 and managed to get that upto 170 / 570 so I gained a bit of ground back
