Question 8RDA+ and Resume from Standby on XP

The system ENTERS into "Standby" without a problem, but when I press the power button (quickly) to resume, the system starts booting from the BIOS rather than from Standby.

Note that my power supply has the appropriate amperage to support standby, XP is configured appropriately and my BIOS has been configured as directed in the User Manual (sorry for the lack of specifics - I can provide them if necessary/requested).

The strange thing is that Standby *is* initiated (the power light on the system blinks, drives are powered down, XP says "Entering Standby" before powering down, etc.) but the system won't power up into the state I entered from prior to Standby.

AMD 2700+, 1G DDR (3200), Antec Case & power supply, latest NVidia drivers (v2.03), Win XP SP1, latest BIOS (release 4/10/2003).

BTW, at download.com there's a v2.03 NVidia driver release (available directly from NVidia) and a v2.0 NVidia driver release (available from Epox site) - which should be used and what's the difference?

Thanks for any ideas/suggestions!

S3 is broke on every bios later than 3117 for whatever reason.

Yikes!

I just wrote to Epox customer support referencing this URL and they told me:

"Please use the Nvidia 2.0 version driver and retest. Also, ensure that you have update driver for your other configuration on the board (EX. video card et.) Lastly, make sure that you have ACPI set to enable under the bios, disable APIC, and set Suspend type to S3. Retest."

So, they may not be aware of the situation you're claiming.

Are you stating that S3 is broken because of what you've experienced on your system with each BIOS as they've become available?

I'm going to install the Nvidia 2.0 drivers over my previously installed Nvidia 2.03 drivers; I also believe I have ACPI set to S1 & S3.

Maybe it works without APIC. But to disable APIC you have to reinstall Windows.
With APIC enabled, only Bios version 3117 and earlier have a functional S3.
This is what I discovered with my 8RDA+ and some other peeps, too.

Yes, S3 is broken and it's been for a while - I cannot use it and that does not make me too happy - wish they would look into this issue after so many people reported this problem - do a search here and on epox amdforums.com and you will see the reports...

Thanks jcool, fibonaccov,

that seems to be it - APIC being enabled when I installed WinXP (although as you point out jcool it won't make a difference if I reinstall XP with the current BIOS rev! I had a friend check and he couldn't get Standby to work even though APIC was disabled when he installed XP on his 8RDA+).

APIC is supposed to be an enhancement or improvement to the Windows environment so I'm confused as to why it cripples Standby (I guess that's a "bug", but I'm not sure who's court it falls into!).

Is there something that *should* or even could be done in the BIOS to allow Standby to work w/APIC enabled?

After pointing out that this is *not* a new topic fibonaccov, I'm surprised at Epox's replies to this/my problem. I could have been saved alot of frustration (jcool saved me from reinstalling though!) if they simply would have stated, "We're aware of the problem and are working on it. Expect a fix sometime next year" or equiv... ;-)

Again thanks for your help.
