Unhappy Poor game performance (8RDA+)

Hi peeps,

I'm getting really bad gameplay in UT (classic, not 2K3) due to freezes, pauses, generally laggy play. The duration of these freezes would be in milliseconds (ie. not long), but enough to be noticable and irritating. Makes competitive play absolutely impossible

I can't really comment on other games performance as I pretty much only play UT

Any ideas as to what could be causing this or anything obvious I've missed? I've tried disabling sound - didn't work

BIOS 3404
WindowsXP Pro (clean install)
SP1
nForce 2.03
DetXP 43.45
DirectX9.0a

Have you tried increasing your memory voltage? or the AGP voltage?

try installing xp with sp1- mobo - dx9.0a then dets.

it sounds like a stutter issue.

Hi,

in my eagerness to get the 8RDA+ in, and being very used to VIA boards, I installed in this order:

XP, nForce, Dets, SP1.

I know SP1 "should be" applied before nForce drivers (didn't read the notes 'til after I'd installed in the wrong order), but is there a known "stuttering" issue with installing drivers, etc. out of order?

I use 2,03 eversince it is out and I will never update my 8 month old XP pro, not to mention applying this stupid SP...
And I don't get stutters anywhere...
MAybe its DX9(a) or just a Bios setting. Set AGP Aperture size to 32MB and disable Fastwrites...

I agree with the order installation of Winxp , SP1 , 2.03 NVidia drivers .
IF you have SP1a burnt to a cd beforehand. Because how will you be able to get the online Service Pack 1 without a working ethernet connection ? I guess you could install a seperate nic card with its drivers to do it . Anyway , here is a link to get the service pack for download to be burnt to a cd so you can slipstream it into (onto?) your winxp OS .
http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/...sp1/default.asp
There is a method detailing how to install here :
http://www.tweaktown.com/document.p...Id=434&dPage=16
If this helps , that's great.

I have had at least 3 users thank me for this info. Obviously no-one yet commented here:
Link!

Um after you read this then you will know why I want onboard sound and NIC IRQs to be hard set just like the midi or parallel port in the bios.

The info eliviates stuttering and sound issues (sound issues can be caused by setting premix levels at max also).

I dunna use MBM

I've had a total nightmare this afternoon with the board. Constant freezes in BIOS (with non-overclocked settings btw; undeclocked if anything), and FDD apparently dead - a CMOS discharge bought the FDD back to life ( ) but then I started getting BIOS checksum errors.

Most annoying

I've flashed to BIOS 3501 and it seems stable again, but if I get any more bother from it I'll be reaching for my old, but trusty 8K3A. A fraction of a % speed increase is hardly worth sacrificing reliability for

Sounds more serious than just conflicting IRQs.

Seems somewhat more stable since flashing to 3501, however, the previous BIOS had been fine up until today when it just threw a wobbler for no apparent reason

It was during offline play

Perhaps it was BIOS 3404 causing me grief as since I've updated to 3501 my rig has been rock solid (been looping 3DM2K1 for hours). And some of my IRQ conflicts have fixed themselves:

3404 IRQ Sharing
LAN and nForce Audio Codec
IDE Controller and nForce MCP Audio

3501 IRQ Sharing
LAN and nForce MCP Audio

I'm tempted to disable onboard LAN and try my 3Com NIC in a PCI slot, although I was looking forward to running zero PCI cards in 8RDA+
